THE FABRIC OF DREAMS

Art book design created to celebrate the black and white fashion and runway photography of Gérard Uféras.

Beginning with 100 photographs, I was tasked with editing down the given photos to a smaller number, while also organizing them to create interested spreads between both visually and thematically related photographs.

I grouped photos according to context (couture vs. street, runway vs. behind the scenes), and visual cues (directionality of the photography, value and tone, texture, movement, lighting, and positioning to the subject). I looked to find moments that could create an interesting narrative between the photos, so that no two spreads were alike.

From there, I created spreads that incorportated the white space of the page into the compositon. Scale and image placement worked to create a dynamic movement for viewer’s eyes. Image captions were used as another element of the composition instead of merely fading into the background.
